WEGs was launched in 2014.

The West End Girls (WEGs) are a group of 10 to 17 year olds from Blackburn and Darwen. The group’s aim is to develop leadership skills and provide the space for them to grow and thrive. The girls inspire and motivate each other, creating a positive and affirming atmosphere while also giving back to their communities. WEGs aims to improve the girl’s character, self-confidence and motivation. The groups also plan campaigns on a range of health and social issues.

The WEGs support local civic activities in the town, and volunteer to support many of the junior groups within One Voice Blackburn.

Activities include; public speaking, debating society, media opportunities, outdoor excursions, book club, event management, and much nore.

The girls also visit major cities around the world, as well as co-produce and co-edit the 1VTV quarterly bulletins, and submit articles to the 1V Magazine.

Mini West End Girls is the younger sister of WEGs. Launched in Summer 2020 the group was created for girls aged between 6 and 10. The sessions take place at Blackburn Youth Zone each Sunday.

The sessions are run by leads some of whom have graduated from the main WEGs group. It’s a place for fun, enjoyment as well as creating lifelong friendships. The girls move to WEGs when they reach 11 years of age.

Activities include arts, crafts, science, projects, building confidence, and outdoors visits. The focus is on empowering these young females into becoming more confident and making new friends.

Set up in 2019 this female only sports group gives members the opportunity to engage in multi sports on a weekly basis. We provide members with the chance to get involved in a range of sports including football, rugby, rounders and much more.

We have qualified coaches in place to ensure sessions are benefitting members to their full potential. The environment is both fun and engaging, but not overly competitive.

We have created unique opportunities for young people to get involved in training opportunities where they develop skills that will enable them to lead and manage sports sessions in the future.

Recently the girls have been engaging in rugby sessions alongside Blackburn RUFC with much success. The majority of sessions take place at Blackburn Youth Zone.

Registration and Session fees apply.
