SCOUTS FAMILY LIGHT UP IFTAR EVENT
Around 300 people attended the Iftar Under the Stars event jointly organised by 1V Scouts and Abu Hanifah Foundation Scouts (AHF Scouts).
The event was a gathering to celebrate Scouting as part of a nationwide initiative. Iftar Under the Stars welcomed families from both 1V Scouts and AHF Scouts who are based in Blackburn.
Iftar is the meal eaten by Muslims at Sunset during the month of Ramadan.
The event was also attended by District Scout Commissioners, local Scout Leaders and a representative from Muslim Scout Fellowship.
The Cubs, Beavers and Scouts enjoyed a range of activities prior to the breaking of the fast which included a recitation of the Quran from the AHF Scouts. At Iftar time prayers took place in the St. Mary’s College Fields, followed by meals prepared by families of both Scouts groups.
This is the first of a number of events being hosted by One Voice as part of their Summer 2017 programme, and involved the West End Girls and 1V Women’s Network.
Nisbah Hussain, Group Leader of 1V Scouts said,
“At our first Iftar event, we hoped to bring together our scouting family and other groups within the community. We had a number of activities for the children to enjoy and it was lovely to have children from different groups have the opportunity to make new friendships and enjoy breaking their fast together.”
Abid Saleh, AHF Group Scout Leader said,
“The Iftar Under the Stars event is a heartening example of Blackburn communities coming together during Ramadan. It was uplifting seeing so many children, parents and grandparents gather in one place and sharing a special moment. The Iftar will no doubt create fond memories for all involved and I hope it’s something we can organise again next year.”
